I know more about you than you think. I know you’ve been ridiculed and respected, adored and despised. You’ve been imprisoned and set free. So what is “moxxy,” exactly?

Moxie: A force of character, determination or nerve.

The name moxie derived from a soft drink that was created around 1876. The drink was said to be effective against nervousness, paralysis and insomnia. The drink contained gentian root extracts (a rare South American plant), and ten years later, the drink company added soda water and syrup to create a blend of “bitter and sweet.” Author E. B. White once claimed that “Moxie contains gentian root, which is the path to the good life.”
